A PREK to 8 CATHOLIC SCHOOL SINCE 1936

Grade 1 Social Studies

The social studies curriculum further emphasizes the value and dignity of each individual. Students will develop an awareness of and appreciation for cultures throughout the world in addition to learning about our own country’s history and key historical figures. They will also learn basic skills for interpreting maps and globes. How cultural traditions around the world relate to our own lives will also be a large part of our curriculum.

  • Students learn geography skills and how to create maps by using map keys, pictures, and legends.
  • A small research project is completed by each student on an important American.
  • Through text students gain an understanding and appreciation for American history.
  • The students are exposed to a variety of cultures. By exposing students to different cultural perspectives they gain a greater knowledge and appreciation of differences between peoples.
