Our language arts curriculum gives students the tools needed to become life-long readers. The classrooms are filled with books of a variety of genres to allow the children to read for knowledge and pleasure. Students are immersed in classical and modern literature and are given opportunities to study poetry, short stories, novels, and reader theaters. The language arts program includes reading, writing, phonics, grammar and spelling. Aspects of these components include:
Spanish in the primary grades concentrates on learning vocabulary and becoming comfortable with the sounds of Spanish. A spiral curriculum with its emphasis on mastery, retention, and expansion of knowledge introduces the vocabulary units. Students learn grammar implicitly as it is slowly introduced. Resources in the classroom allow them to practice reading and to learn about the Spanish-speaking world.
