A PREK to 8 CATHOLIC SCHOOL SINCE 1936

Grade 3 Language Arts

The language arts curriculum gives students the opportunity to further develop reading fluency. The program continues teaching phonological awareness, phonics, grammar, spelling, and writing. Guided instruction and guided reading are an important aspect used so that the student will learn how their experiences can tell them about the world. They can see that there are different forms of expression and that analyzing information can help to solve problems. Asking questions helps them to make discoveries. The classroom contains materials that will give students opportunities to read for learning or just for pleasure. Many writing opportunities are also presented throughout the year.

Spanish

Spanish in the primary grades concentrates on learning vocabulary and becoming comfortable with the sounds of Spanish. A spiral curriculum with its emphasis on mastery, retention, and expansion of knowledge introduces the vocabulary units. Students learn grammar implicitly as it is slowly introduced. Resources in the classroom allow them to practice reading and to learn about the Spanish-speaking world.
