A PreK to 8 CATHOLIC SCHOOL SINCE 1936

Grade 4 Math

The fourth-grade mathematics curriculum gives students the opportunity to develop thinking and problem solving skills, while building on prior learning. Students continue their learning of specific mathematical operations using symbols and notations. Manipulatives are used to help students understand the relationship between fractions, percentages, and decimals. Currently, students use the Saxon Math 54 textbook and benefit from the Accelerated Math classroom program. Fourth-graders participate in a national Catholic school contest called “MathFax.”

Fourth-graders learn new skills such as:

  • Multiplying three factors and understanding exponents
  • The relationship between mixed numbers and improper fractions
  • Writing mixed numbers as decimals
  • Adding and subtracting decimals
  • Adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators
  • Chance and probability
  • Division by two digit numbers
