Students are introduced to a wide variety of works of art that they will find interesting and stimulating. The teacher will show and describe sources of inspiration, both secular and divine. Students have the opportunity to do work that reveals their own creativity. Thus the gap is bridged between their efforts and those of the masters. In the Overbook art room creative art is introduced as a source of devotion and an act of devotion. Full, free imaginative expression and careful, focused work is encouraged. Techniques introduced include: paper maiche sculpture, printmaking, copper foil reposse, clay sculpture, drawing, painting and collage.
Music classes seek to educate the whole child. Singing hymns and songs of many genres, as well as, reading music and rhythms are only a few aspects of our classes. Children learn how music relates to history, art, literature and dance. Creativity is encouraged throughout. These classes also provide opportunities to grow in self-esteem and moral character.
Fifth-grade students can join the choir, band or percussion groups as well. They also participate in the end-of-year musical.
