A PreK to 8 CATHOLIC SCHOOL SINCE 1936

Grade 5 Science

Overbrook students in the fifth grade are provided opportunities to use the scientific method of investigation through hands-on classroom experiences as well as their own research projects. This approach combined with a newly adopted textbook learning series with online access encourages students to become curious learners.

The science curriculum in fifth grade guides students to learn about:

  • Processes of living things (cells, body systems, plants, animals, heredity)
  • Interactions among living things (energy and ecosystems)
  • Processes that change the Earth (rocks, fossils, landforms, resources)
  • The cycles on Earth and in Space (weather, water, Earth, Moon, Solar System)
  • Matter and energy (properties, energy, electricity, sound, and light)
  • Forces and motion
