Junior High Faculty

Sr. Maria Cecilia, O.P.
Sr. Maria Cecilia earned her BAIS from the University of South Carolina with a degree in elementary education. Sister is in her ninth year of teaching and comes to us from St. Catherine of Siena School in Kennesaw, Ga., where she taught for the past three years. Sister will teach junior high religion.

Mary Prue Alley
Mary Prue Alley teaches 6-8 math. She graduated with honors from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a minor in mathematics. She has 29 years of experience. She has received the following accolades: 1998 Target Teachers Scholarship Award Winner, 2001 Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar, 2006 Nominee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching in Math.

Nancy Anderson
Nancy Anderson teaches 6-7 language arts. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Middle Tennessee State University and has 27 years experience in the classroom. She was featured in Who's Who Among America's Teachers and was OS Teacher of the Year in 2002.

Greg Celio
Greg Celio teaches 6-8 grade social studies. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s of education from the University of Notre Dame. He studied at the University of Notre Dame Rome Program during the spring semester in 2003.

Amy Delvin
Amy Delvin, a SCA alumna, returns to the campus to teach junior high language arts. Amy received a bachelor’s degree in English from UT and a master’s in education from UT. She taught second grade at St. John Neumann, Knoxville, for 3 years and junior high language arts and religion at St. John the Baptist in Silver Spring, MD, for 6 years. While in Maryland, she choreographed and co-directed the school musicals.

Julie Petcu
Julie Petcu teaches 6-8 science. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston University with an emphasis in health science/nursing, a master’s degree from University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in microbiology/molecular biology. She received a grant from NIH to study neurotropic viruses and received a Certificate in Business from the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania. Petcu has continued to take graduate courses in the sciences past her master’s degree.

In the last year, Petcu has attended many professional development workshops, some of which covered Toxicology and Forensic Science. This past summer she was awarded a NASA/Boeing grant to attend the Space Institute at the US Air Force Academy, where she will study the Biology of Living on the International Space Station. She is also applying her Parent Research Grant to attend a course for educators sponsored by the New Mexico Department of Geology and Mines.

The most rewarding contribution to the scientific field, however, is her teaching of junior high students at Overbrook, where the natural enthusiastic wonder of youth is a natural fit for emerging scientists.
