A PRE K to 8 CATHOLIC SCHOOL SINCE 1936

Overbrook Grade 2 Academics

Children in 2nd grade at Overbrook School are challenged to expand the abilities and potential that has been fostered in previous education. It is a year in which they learn greater autonomy and experience satisfaction in their own accomplishments in problem solving whether it is on the playground or in the classroom.

Every aspect of their life in 2nd grade revolves around their growing awareness of the presence of Christ in the Sacraments, which they are preparing to receive, and His presence in the person next to them. To foster this awareness, the 2nd grade participates in the school-wide community service project, which varies each year, and contributes to the child’s growing understanding of the needs of others.

Philosophy of Teaching

“Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children.” -- Catechism of the Catholic Church #2223”

All that is accomplished at Overbrook is to reinforce and promote all that is taught in the home. We believe that we are not a substitute for the parents’ irreplaceable role as the educators of their children and should not contradict all that the parent teaches by word and example. For a child to be truly successful, the partnership of the parents and teachers must be genuine and evident to the child.

As Christian educators, we believe in the dignity of every human person and in the importance of recognizing Christ in each person we meet. Every child is welcome and accepted as we would welcome and accept Christ Himself.
