The Nashville Diocesan Athletic Council was established for the purpose of developing and maintaining consistent regulations and standards of behavior for all interscholastic sports activities within the Diocesan Interscholastic Athletic Program.
Interscholastic athletics in the Diocese of Nashville are seen as a component in the overall development of many Catholic school students. It is the ultimate goal of every Catholic school to assist parents in promoting the total development of their children. Total development encompasses four major areas: academic, spiritual, emotional and physical.
These components are fully integrated in a well functioning athletic program. It must be remembered that the Catholic school is an outgrowth of the command of Jesus, "Go therefore and teach all nations." The Church has survived throughout the centuries as a result of following its dedication to this commandment. Catholic athletic programs, being an extension of the Catholic school program, serve as a vehicle whereby Christian values are taught to our youth.
