Overbrook Basketball Classic

The 2010 Overbrook Classic featured 36 teams playing throughout one week in December. The boys team from Montgomery Bell Academy won the boys bracket; Ensworth won the girls bracket. Thanks to all those teams who particitpated and to all of our sponsors and volunteers!

What is the Overbrook Basketball Classic?
The Overbrook Basketball Classic is a unique event and a major fundraiser. It is a junior high basketball tournament. This year we expect 40 teams to compete and will be held the week of December 5-10, 2011.

Overbrook Classic Spirit Week

In its 28th year, the Overbrook Classic junior high basketball tournament attracts 45 to 50 teams from across Middle Tennessee. Girls and boys from public, private and parochial teams participate in this annual launch of the basketball season. New this year for the 75th anniversary, Overbrook students will show their school spirit with a week of in-school fun including a pep rally, dress-up days, poster contest and more.

The Overbrook Classic is sponosored by area businesses, participating schools, as well as each Overbrook family.

What are the major sources of revenue from the Classic?
The Basketball Classic has been a successful fund-raiser and will continue to be with your vital support. There are two major sources of revenue from the Basketball Classic — corporate sponsors and program ads. The revenue from the program is generated by advertising from local businesses and Overbrook families that purchase business or family ads. Additional revenue is received from ticket sales, concessions and T-shirt sales.

How can our family participate?
There are numerous opportunities for your family to play an active role in the success of the Classic. The Basketball Classic will attract over 5,000 people to our facility. Therefore, this event is both a labor of love and labor intensive.

The following are ways that you and your family can support Overbrook:

• Show your Overbrook spirit and purchase a family or business ad for the program. Family and business ads make up a major portion of the program’s revenue and we need your help. You can offer your support by purchasing one of these ads or you can design your own.
• As a token of appreciation, those families who purchase a family or business ad will be given:
  • An out-of-uniform pass for each Overbrook student in the family.
  • A “basketball” to be placed on the wall outside the gym with your family name showing your support.
• Join the work force. During the tournament, we need parents to work ticket sales, concessions, T-shirt sales or donate a food item to the hospitality room. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and network with each other.
• T-Shirt Sales. Each year T-shirts are provided for the Classic. The T-shirts will go on sale prior to the Classic. Students will be able to wear the shirts on designated days.

There are many ways in which your family can participate in the Overbrook Classic. Your participation is critical to the success of this event and reflects the community spirit that makes our school special. Remember that your children will be the primary beneficiaries of your generosity.
