CROSS COUNTRY
Nearly 100 students participated in cross country at Overbrook in the fall 2007 season. It is the only sport where students from kindergarten through eighth-grade can participate on the same team.
Overbrook hosted all four diocesan league meets on The Dominican Campus.
The junior high boys came in second place in the diocesan league and the junior high girls came in fourth.
Athletic Director Trey Edmondson coaches the team.
VOLLEYBALL
Overbrook parents Tana Lewis and Kimberly Forrest coached the fifth- and sixth-grade volleyball team in the fall of 2007. Fourteen girls played on the team, learning the basics of the game: how to how to serve, bump and set and the rules of volleyball.
"Most of our practice focuses on serving and bumping and how to play the game", Coach Forrest said, adding that this team builds skills for future playing years.
Both Coach Forrest and Coach Lewis coached the team last year and are looking forward to coaching the seventh- and eighth-grade team in the spring.
“We are thrilled to be back again coaching this team,” Coach Forrest said.
FOOTBALL
Overbrook fifth- and sixth-grade boys team up again this year with St. Matthew School to form the Lions football team. Seven Overbrook students are on the team and Greg King continues to coach.
It was an exciting season for the Eagles and Lions. They ended the successful season with a party at St. Matthew where they played touch football with their dads.
The third-grade flag football team also had a great season with some thrilling victories.
CHEERLEADING
The cheerleading squad looks great this season with new uniforms and pompoms and a third-place trophy from the parochial league competition this fall at Father Ryan. There are nine seventh- and eighth-grade girls on the squad this year along with the junior mascot cheerleader.
Overbrook mothers Kim Coakley, Kate Page and Cheryl Panther are coaching the team this year along with faculty liaison Pier Vaughn. St. Cecilia Academy junior Kelly Bodell, OS ’05, who is herself a cheerleader, helped the squad out with its competitive dance routine and worked with the girls during Overbrook’s cheerleading camp in August.
