Violin Students

Nine of our violin students played Christmas Carols on December 5th at a local nursing home. The residents were delighted.

Hurricane Relief Efforts

A group of Overbrook students wanted to make their own contribution to the hurricane relief effort. “Cookies for Cajuns” was born as their means of helping those in need. Over the course of the Labor Day weekend this group of children baked and sold cookies at various locations to collect just over $1,000 to benefit the victims of Katrina.

Our Cub Scouts collected toys, books and games as a service project for a Cub Scout Troop in Pascagoula, MS. Every year at Christmas time, the troop in Pascagoula runs a Toy Drive to help the underprivileged. This year, many of these same boys had nothing but slabs for their houses. Our Cub Scouts wrapped and sent all items collected to Pascagoula.

Another group upon hearing that many of the hurricane evacuees were requesting Bibles, responded by providing 100 of them.

Art Service

Overbrook had an opportunity to enrich our community through art. Students decorated a birdhouse with glass tiles (Mosaic). At lest 50 different birdhouses, including Overbrook’s, were then auctioned at a silent auction in the Green Hills Mall. The proceeds from the auction benefit the W. O. Smith Music School. This is a non-profit organization that provides discounted music lessons and instruments to underprivileged children in the Nashville area. Least year the Overbrook Mosaic Birdhouse was very popular at the auction, bringing in close to $100 for the W. O. Smith School.
