The Student Council jumped to action after Hurricane Katrina. They placed containers in all the classrooms and asked students to collect money and do sacrifices for the Katrina victims. The donations of $583 were sent to the St. Louis Cathedral Academy in New Orleans.
During the Lenten season, the members sponsored the Loaves and Fishes Program for Catholic Charities. Once again the entire student body participated. Students were asked to donate their spare change. Each dollar collected provided one meal. Overbrook collected enough for 345 meals.
The Student Council also does service for the school. Each morning two members raise the American flag and announce students' birthdays. Another big event that the Student Council provides service for is the Wrapping Paper Fashion Show. To promote the Sally Foster Wrapping Paper Fundraiser, members of the Student Council select a student representative from each class and chose an “outfit” for their representative made from the wrapping paper being sold. They serve as the emcees during the kick-off by reading a description of each “ensemble.” Lively music plus the antics of the “models” made for an exiting fashion show, which in turn increased motivation for wrapping paper sales.
