SOAR Gifted Program
Overbrook Catholic School's gifted enrichment program, SOAR, provides a math and reading curriculum that transcends traditional classroom learning. Students dive into a world where brainstorming, creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and high-order thinking skills take center stage. Carefully crafted activities are designed to not only challenge and enrich the minds of gifted learners, but also fortify their skillsets as life-long learners.
Another component of the SOAR enrichment program is the Math competitions for third- and fourth-grade “Math Teams.” In addition to SOAR students, these teams will include students who have high math ability or love math challenges but are not in the SOAR program. These competitions are held monthly from November to March. First and second grade students who are ready for higher level math skills and challenging problems are also invited to be on a math team. These students meet once a week to collaborate on solving enrichment math problems and logic puzzles to help them prepare for the third and fourth grade math competitions.
SOAR's curriculum was specifically developed by experts in the field of gifted education and is the only one of its kind in the Diocese of Nashville.
