The study of art and the overall creative process helps us to become more fully human. Beauty and the act of creating brings us closer to ourselves, others, and God. What a gift! We have so many opportunities to witness our God-given surroundings, immersing ourselves in the wondrous and mysterious process of creating. 

Overbrook Catholic School’s art studio introduces students to a variety of works of art, artists, art movements and general art historical concepts. Students will create works of art in a variety of media, including but not limited to: painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, collage, and mixed media. Full, free, imaginative expression and careful, focused work is encouraged. Process and product are carefully balanced, as there is a place for both in the art curriculum. Technique and skill development is important, yet experimentation, creative risk-taking, and self-exploration is encouraged.

The arts are essential in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The arts encompass all subjects and require a wide base of knowledge to fully understand movements, techniques, and art processes. Overbrook Catholic School has a sequential, integrated, and interdisciplinary art curriculum that seeks to make cross-curricular connections for student artists.
