Preschool
Two Preschool Tracks Designed for Every Young Learner
At Overbrook Catholic School, we recognize that every child learns in unique and beautiful ways. Our preschool program offers two thoughtfully designed tracks: Multi-Age Montessori and Single-Age Traditional (Montessori-Inspired) giving families the opportunity to select the environment where their child will flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.
The 3, 4, or 5-day options all foster independence and practical life skills in individual, one-on-one, and group settings.
Why Two Tracks?
Young children grow at different paces. By offering two developmentally appropriate models rooted in Catholic values, Overbrook Catholic School empowers families to make the choice that best supports their child’s gifts, temperament, and readiness. All preschool and kindergarten students are taught social, spiritual, and academic goals, providing diverse learning approaches tailored to each child’s needs.
Students are placed in each track based on parental preference, teacher recommendations, and availability.
Multi-Age Montessori Track
A self-paced, Child-Led Learning Environment
In our multi-age Montessori classrooms, children ages 3-5 learn side-by-side in a peaceful and purposeful setting. Guided by trained Montessori teachers, students move through the room choosing meaningful work that builds concentration, independence, and confidence.
Key Features
- Multi-age classroom of 3 through 5 year olds
- "Family-style" learning, where younger children observe and learn from older peers while older children experience leadership
- One-on-one lessons from the teacher in the Montessori areas of practical life, sensorial, math, language, geography, and culture
- Self-paced, hands-on learning under the observation and guidance of the teacher
Single-Age Traditional Track
A structured, teacher-led learning environment
Our single-age traditional classrooms serve children grouped by age, creating a consistent peer experience. These classrooms use Montessori-inspired methods—purposeful materials, child-centered instruction, and respect for developmental stages—while offering a more traditional schedule and whole-group activities.
Key Features
- Single-age classrooms of 3-, 4-, or 5-year-olds
- Structured whole-group, small-group, and individual lessons to develop age-appropriate skills along with self-selected work and play-based practice
- Community is built with age-level peers, growing age-appropriate social skills together through daily peer interactions
What Both Tracks Share
No matter which track a family chooses, every preschooler at Overbrook Catholic receives:
-
A nurturing, joyful environment steeped in the Catholic faith
-
Developmentally appropriate early literacy, numeracy, and fine motor instruction
-
Teachers who honor the dignity of each child and encourage curiosity
-
Opportunities for social-emotional growth and independence
-
Outdoor play, creativity, and hands-on learning
-
A warm partnership between parents and educators
Both paths lead seamlessly into Overbrook’s strong first-grade program. It is a hallmark of OCS that teachers take students beyond national norms, exceeding the learning standards expected of them.
