Over the week of December 8th -13th the Nashville middle school basketball season kicked off with a beloved tradition. For the 40th year, Overbrook Catholic School hosted the Overbrook Classic and welcomed Middle Tennessee basketball teams to the Dominican Campus for a week of community on the court.  

This year’s tournament featured 36 teams from 12 different schools and one local community group, culminating in 49 games to decide champions in four different divisions. Many remember the Classic as a rite of passage in 7th and 8th grade middle school basketball, but for the last four years the Classic has welcomed 3rd and 4th grade teams, as well as 5th and 6th grade teams in both boys' and girls' divisions to Overbrook Catholic.  

2025 showcased teams from Brentwood Academy, Christ the King School, Covenant School, Grace Christian Academy, Holy Rosary Academy, Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School, Overbrook Catholic School, St. Ann School, St. Bernard Academy, St. Henry School, St. Matthew School, University School of Nashville, and the Mustangs from the local community. All in all, 14 teams competed in the 3rd and 4th grade division, and 22 teams battled it out for the 5th and 6th grade titles.  

Amidst the busy Christmas season, these teams and their fans enjoyed the games, as well as an opportunity to play against those outside of their conferences. The Diocesan Athletic Conference (DAC) and the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference (HVAC) both had representatives competing. 

With nine games played each night on campus, hosted in both the OCS and the St. Cecilia Academy gyms, the energy throughout the week was dynamic. Each team was guaranteed to play two games during the first four days of the Classic, and the semifinals and finals were scheduled to determine the champions on Friday and Saturday.  

The 3rd and 4th grade girls' division semifinals showcased Christ the King, two Overbrook Catholic teams, and St. Matthew. Christ the King and St. Matthew competed in the final, with the Christ the King Raiders girls taking the championship home.  

The 3rd and 4th grade boys' division semifinals featured the Mustangs from the local community, St. Matthew, and two Overbrook teams. In the finals, the OCS Eagles fought against the Mustangs, with the 3rd & 4th grade boys’ division Classic Champion title going to the Mustangs. 

The 5th and 6th grade girls’ division semifinals brought Overbrook Gold versus St. Matthew, and University School of Nashville against Brentwood Academy. St. Matthew and Brentwood Academy came head-to-head in the finals, with St. Matthew prevailing. 

“The 5th and 6th grade boys’ semifinals saw Overbrook Gold playing against St. Henry, and Brentwood Academy versus Christ the King. For the finals, Overbrook Gold and Brentwood Academy battled, with BA victorious. 

OCS is especially grateful to Classic Co-Chairs Jim and Kathryn Farris, Cortney Rockhill, and Amelia Malone; Athletic Director Kammeon Holsey and Assistant Athletic Director David Marmolejo; generous sponsors; and committed volunteers who filled 95 volunteer shifts. 

It was a great week of basketball, hospitality, and community on the Dominican Campus. All connected with the Overbrook Classic are excited to keep the tradition rolling. They are grateful for 40 years of competition and camaraderie and look forward to 40 more.
