HVAC Finals Results

Congratulations to the OCS athletes who competed in the HVAC finals last week. Ruthie finished in second place in the 400m, running a PR 1:01.87 - a time which would have placed 6th in the boys' race. The 4x800 team of Ethan, Patrick, Will, and Noble finished 7th overall, with Ethan and Noble running PRs en route. Shaw placed 10th overall in the shot put and Oliver placed 10th in the discus - both great results for 6th graders competing against 7th and 8th graders.

Spirit Awards

Spirit Awards went to Celine (Quaker Bento Box), a member of Coach Songy's MId-D Development crew who always puts forth maximal effort, Micheal H. (Ohio State sunglasses) for a baseline level of intensity no one else will ever match, and to Noble (Kansas City Royals glass) for jumping in any event when needed if it will help his team. Super efforts by all.

Crush the Workouts

Crush the Workouts went to: Tyler, Howard, Charlotte, and Jada, with Jada winning the Super Crush for completing the tough sprint work on Wednesday.

Coming Up This Week

This is our last week of practice and our final meet of the season is this Sunday 5/3 at noon at the OCS track.

Parents, please join us this Friday 5/1 for our raucous honors and awards, with the rare chance to race your son or daughter if you are game! We have a treat arriving at 4 p.m. so will do some racing at 3:15 p.m. that will include a race walk and some Mystery Rabbit. After, we will congregate at the picnic tables for awards. We should be done by 4:30 p.m. and we can walk kids who need it to Extended Care at that time.

5/3/26 Sunday Noon Meet at OCS

We are going to host one final meet on Sunday, 5/3 from noon to hopefully 2:30pm. This will be a Championship style meet with hardware awarded. Kids are encouraged to pick 2-3 events to really put forth maximal effort (no prize for completing everything this time around).

Noon: Turbo javelin, long jump, shot put - Turbo Javelin moved to directly in front of the audience so that they can see how well the kids throw! Awards for top throwers and jumpers.

12:30pm: 50m dash - development race, no awards for this one but will be timed

12:50pm: 100m dash - top boy and girl time from each grade moves to a final (grades 1-3 combined final, grades 4-6 combined final) - awards for top boy and girl in each grade

1:10pm: 400m dash - Awards for top 3 boys and girls in grades 1-3 combined, and for top 3 boys and girls in grades 4-6 combined.

1:25pm: Crush the Banana 400m - 1st and 2nd grade only - if they can beat the banana, they win a prize

1:40pm: 1500m - This is the "metric mile" that is most often run in international / Olympic competition. Awards for top 3 boys and top 3 girls overall.

2pm: 2 x 200 relay - This is never run but is a fun relay that can be easily explained to the youngest kids. Untimed and for fun.

2:30pm: Hope to be concluded!
