Overbrook School seventh-graders’ recently took on a new assignment: build a prosthetic hand.
Students used gloves stuffed with cotton balls, string, pen springs, cardboard, fishing line, clay, Styrofoam, wood and more to build their hands. All of the groups met the objective of creating a hand that could pick up a water bottle. Some groups researched and found pre-made patterns to use but others built their prosthetic hands completely from scratch.
Junior high science teacher Mrs. Christina Cathey’s aim in assigning the project was to bring in a STREAM project that combines science, technology, religion, engineering, art, and mathematics into the lab. Read more.
