Sister Julia Marie, O.P., former vice principal of academics at St. Cecilia Academy, became the new principal of Overbrook School July 1, 2016.

Sister Julia Maria takes the helm at Overbrook during its 80th year rooting children in truth, inspiring them to wonder and challenging them to give their best to the world. She graduated from St. Anselm College with a Bachelors of Arts in chemistry and went on to study biochemistry in a doctoral program at Boston University. In addition, she has a Masters of Education in Leadership from Trevecca University as well as 14 years of teaching experience.

In the last four years as vice principal of academics at St. Cecilia Academy, she successfully shaped the academic program, which contributed to a record size freshman class in 2015-16.

“I have had the joy of working and living with Sister over the past five years and can personally attest to her graciousness, affability, clear-thinking, and consistent leadership,” said former Overbrook Principal Sister Mary Gertrude, O.P., who is leaving to take an assignment for the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia Congregation in Phoenix.  “Sister Julia Maria has a great rapport with and love for the students in her care and a great working relationship with parents in her current role.”
