OVERBROOK SCHOOL RECEIVES NATIONAL GRANT

NASHVILLE – Overbrook School today announced it received an $8,400 STEM grant from the Toshiba America Foundation. Funds will support Overbrook’s unique Catholic approach to creation-based interactions with technology.

Toshiba America Foundation’s grants fund projects designed by individual classroom teachers to support the way hands-on and inquiry-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is taught in classrooms across the country. Today’s grant will fund VEX IQ robotics kits allowing students access to more complex building and programming material and will add greater depth to Overbrook’s current and rigorous STEM program.

“With this competitive grant, Overbrook School will continue its focus on making certain each student interacts with technology in a purposeful, ordered, and intentional way,” said Principal Sister Julia Marie, OP. “Our STEM program is integrated into every classroom, and targets, through age-appropriate measures, specific types of critical thinking and math skills.”

Sister Julia Marie continued: “In 2019, Overbrook has received almost $20,000 in grants in support of our STEM work. Along with the generous gifts from our Parents Association and other private donors, students at Overbrook School receive consistent and fitting STEM challenges in every classroom, for every student.”

Overbrook School, a Catholic, co-educational school located on 83 acres in the heart of Nashville, celebrates the work done in and focus on our outstanding STEM program and continues their work to root children in Truth, inspire them to wonder, and challenge them to give their best to the world.

Founded in 1936 by the Dominican Sisters of the St. Cecilia Congregation, Overbrook is a co-educational, preschool through eighth-grade independent Catholic school with a dynamic tradition of educating children through study, prayer, and service.
