They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles' wings; They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.

Isaiah 40:31

School Mascot: The Eagle

Because it soars upward, the eagle is a symbol of the resurrection and ascension of Christ. By extension, the eagle symbolizes baptized Christians, who have symbolically died and risen with Christ.

The Eagle bears us up

The eagle is found throughout Scripture but primarily in the Old Testament. It is a sign of strength and the ability to bear much weight, as God told Moses, "You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to Myself" (Ex 19:4).

The Eagle as a Sign of Strength

The psalmist often referred to God as having the attributes of an eagle and especially when he wrote that it was God "who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's" (Psalm 103:5). Isaiah also say the symbolic strength of God as depicted in an eagle, "They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles' wings; They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint" (Isaiah 40:31).

The OCS Eagle Athlete

The OCS Eagle student-athlete strives to rise above—competing with strength, integrity, and joy. Rooted in Scripture’s image of the eagle, our athletes rely on God’s grace to persevere, play with virtue, and honor teammates and opponents.

They use their God-given gifts to the fullest, learn from challenges, and remember that their worth is rooted in being created in God’s image and in the love, service, and virtue they manifest, rather than in the trophies they earn. At Overbrook, the Eagle student-athlete is formed to soar.
