Congratulations goes out to the Overbrook Catholic Eagles Volleyball A team for their two games to one victory on Monday afternoon!
Jumping into the deep end of the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference Jr Volleyball League the Eagles welcomed the Ensworth Tigers to campus and were ready to battle. The Eagles jumped out to a great start with Finley Rand and Kate Rockhill's serving putting the Tigers under early pressure. The Eagles played great defense and offense led by Kimball Caldwell who helped control the net and had a great spike that kept the rally going. Kate Plosa then decided it was her turn to tame the Tigers and rattled off 8 points in a row with some great serving. The Eagles controlled the Tigers serves well all match and made it hard on Ensworth to get a run going to fight back in game one. The Tigers got within 4 points before Kate Rockhill’s serving shut the door and had the Eagles celebrating the first game win with a 25-17 score.
The Tigers bounced back and Ensworth had the more consistent service game in the second round and held on for a 25-22 win and forced a decisive third game. The Eagles made life tough on the Tigers led by Kate P., Finely, and Kate R.
With the third game only going to 15 each point matters and the Eagles settled down after the Tigers began with the serve and scored a few points off the bat. Everyone stepped up in serving and receiving in the third match with Finley, Kinsley Tuggle, and Kate R. making sure that the Eagles kept the pressure on and got out to 11 points and a nice little lead. Ensworth fired off a few points to put some pressure on but with the ball coming to Kate Plosa with 3 points needed for the win, she made her serves count. A few great scrambles and hustle plays, including a needed bump by Stella Blue Miller made sure Kate P. only needed one more quality serve for the victory. The serve was great, and the Eagles ended with an ACE and got to celebrate their victory.
The stat book was certainly grateful for the Kates, as Kate P. led the Eagles with 18 points scored off her serves, and Kate R. added 12 points off serves. The defense was led by Finley and Kimball, with great support from Elaina Phillips and Kinsley as well. Maddie Luea and Stella Blue added needed support and points that led to victories.
Well done, Lady Eagles! After moving to 1-1 in league play, they await the opportunity to host Harpeth Hall on Monday, August 28. Come out and see our Eagles serve, set, and spike their way to more success this season!
